Pastor Johnson, the third pastor of Berea served from 1976 – 1983. His pastoral ministry at Berea began with so much devotion and dedication to the work of God.

He resigned from working in the building industry to be engaged in full time ministry. Thus, he was the first (then) Jamaica Mission candidate to attend Jamaica Open Bible Institute (JOBI) to be formally trained in pastoral studies.

Pastor Johnson’s passion was evangelism, and his hard work in that area reaped great harvest.

“Trust God even when you cannot trace Him”

Pastor Johnson was a sincere worshipper. It was amazing to others that he did not need a full house to worship God. He would lift his voice in singing and worshipping God. He was never discouraged. He would begin service at the scheduled time, even if he was the only person in the sanctuary. His congregants loved to hear his deep heartfelt prayers to God.

Pastor Johnson had an infectious laughter that took him through many storms and struggles. He seldom complained, instead he continued in prayer. He was always prepared with a word, a song or a prayer.

Pastor Johnson was not only a pastor, but an advocate, a friend, and an advisor to his members. He was indeed a light that shone in the darkness. Bereans are grateful for the privilege of having him as their pastor, and learning from his wealth of knowledge.

One of his favorite sayings is, ‘Trust God even when you cannot trace Him. ’
