PASTOR VERNAL THEODORE FAULKNOR

Vernal Faulknor has left us a legacy as a pioneer. He was affectionately known as Papa, Papa Pastor; Vee Gee. or the Whip. He was the fifth child of the late Susan and William Faulknor. He was born on February 20, 1920 in Clarendon, Jamaica and died on July 16, 2005, in New York.

Pastor Faulknor’s steadfast faith and passion for the things of God propelled him to start various churches in different parishes. He met and worked with a faithful servant, Brother Rhohden and had great success with street meetings. Hence, a church location was rented at 1A Steven Street, Alman Town – the birth of the Caribbean Conference of Seventh Day Christians (formerly, the Jamaica Mission of Seventh Day Christians).

The location at Steven Street was short lived, and Pastor Faulknor was instrumental in the purchasing of the land at 67c Waltham Park Road. It did not take long for this new church, Berea, to be constructed. Berea was opened and dedicated in the summer of 1964. It was a massive celebration.

Sixty years later, Berea is still a remarkable place of worship- a landmark, a beacon of light. Berea is a place that holds the promise of hope, and stands proud over six decades.

Pastor Vernal Faulknor is saluted as the founder and former pastor of Berea Seventh Day Christian Church. His sterling contribution will continue to live on internationally.
